On February 20th, 2019, Amendment 03 of Regulation 58 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) was published regarding rear underrun protection devices.
The evolution of amendment 02 to 03 has a deadline of September 1, 2021.
The main application changes are:
- Distance from the device to the ground: goes from 550 to 450mm
- Changing the height of the bumper bar from 100mm to 120mm
- Interruption of the rear protection (refers to how to install, for example, tail lift etc)
In general, and by way of summary, the test loads have been hardened. Its implementation, as we said, is mandatory from September 2021 and only for news registrations.
