NEW EUROPEAN LEGISLATION AND MANDATORY COMPLIANCE FROM JULY 2024
Maintaining the correct tire pressure ensures safer driving. But also, and very importantly, it makes the vehicle a more efficient and profitable machine since it extends the useful life of the tires, reduces fuel consumption and, if necessary, the downtime of the semi.
For this reason, Europe has agreed and all trailer approvals issued after July 6, 2022 must have the TPMS installed to comply with the R141 regulation.
But, in addition, it is mandatory, without distinction, in all registered semi-trailers. as of July 7, 2024.
The requirement for a TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) for commercial trailers and semi-trailers is stipulated in Regulation 2009/661, as part of UNECE R141 (the new Global Safety Regulation of the EU).
One of the important points of this new regulation is the obligation for information regarding tire pressure to reach the tractor unit. The law does not oblige the system to say which tire has a problem or what type of problem, but it does require the semi-trailer to notify the tractor of “a pressure failure”. For this reason, although there are many systems on the market, not all of them currently meet this essential requirement.
SOR is also developing its TPMS system with very clear premises: Comply with the regulations with a system: Economical, universal and standard. We will keep reporting.
