From Scania’s commitment to working together with its customers on new transport solutions, the brand puts plug-in hybrid vehicles on the market in real transport operations hand in hand with its customers, in this case, with the logistics company Acotral. In the configuration, they have chosen a SOR box.
In collaboration with Acotral and Mercadona and with SOR box on top, a test will be carried out with Scania’s plug-in hybrid truck. The test will take place over the next several weeks. This vehicle, which will be dedicated to urban distribution in supermarkets located in Madrid capital, has a cabin designed for urban distribution and a 9-liter 360 HP combustion engine combined with a 115kW electric machine and batteries that allow up to 60km in fully electric mode.
This combination allows the best of both technologies: on the one hand, the last mile distribution in zero emissions mode, including the cooling equipment, and on the other hand, maximum autonomy and adaptation to the usual operations of a transport company with the diesel engine.
It is equipped with three batteries, with an installed capacity of 90 kWh and a 115 kW electric motor. The charging time from 0% to 80% is approximately 35 minutes and furthermore it is also recharged through regenerative braking energy. The powertrain is combined with a 9-liter combustion engine.
For Ángel González, general director of Acotral, this test “represents one more step towards an increasingly sustainable transport, a demand from society and our clients, and to prepare ourselves for possible legislative changes in last-mile transport in cities. Testing the first Scania + SOR plug-in hybrid truck in Spain is to know first-hand the behavior of these vehicles with our work, in a real situation. A test that will help us in making decisions for the next few years in our company ”.
